Google Blocks YouTube On Amazon Fire TV

Google Blocks YouTube On Amazon Fire TVOver the last year, some minor bickering between Google and Amazon has occurred. Today, this bickering escalated to an official feud. Google isn’t asking for much. Google wants to sell its products like Google Chromecast and Google Home on Amazon.com. Seems simple. But these Google products directly compete with Amazon’s own products like the Amazon Fire TV and Amazon Alexa devices. So, Amazon restricts the sale of Google products on Amazon.com.

(Update: Read why The Google and Amazon Feud May Be Ending)

Today, Google swung back at Amazon by declaring an end to YouTube support on the Amazon Fire TV and the Amazon Echo Show starting January 01, 2018.

Here is Google’s position:

“We’ve been trying to reach agreement with Amazon to give consumers access to each other’s products and services. But Amazon doesn’t carry Google products like Chromecast and Google Home, doesn’t make Prime Video available for Google Cast users, and last month stopped selling some of Nest’s latest products. Given this lack of reciprocity, we are no longer supporting YouTube on Echo Show and FireTV. We hope we can reach an agreement to resolve these issues soon.”

Amazon has responded:

“Echo Show and Fire TV now display a standard web view of YouTube.com and point customers directly to YouTube’s existing website. Google is setting a disappointing precedent by selectively blocking customer access to an open website. We hope to resolve this with Google as soon as possible.”

If you have an Amazon Fire TV and have recently started the YouTube app, you may have already seen this message from Google:

“Starting on 1/1/2018, YouTube will not be available on this device. You can continue to enjoy your favorite creators and videos in many other ways. Please visit https://goo.gl/LefFGe for a list of devices you can use.”

The list of devices at https://goo.gl/LefFGe does not include the Amazon Fire TV. Some Amazon Fire TV’s are showing the link https://goo.gl/mjZxwN.

Stay tuned to see what’s next for these two media giants.

you lying a#* s.o.b’s—there is no possible war that warrants the limiting of our “FREE” social media viewing choices and justify digging in the ,already faithful, consumers’ pockets….merry freakin Christmas…lol

Sort it out.Youtube is a big paet of peoples entertainment.Any alternatives?

  22. Leigh Hartmann says:

What a damn shame. There are things that each can provide the consumer and they are so petty that it has become rediculous. Once a person has a device, the competition is over. In any business having 2 strong competitors allows both to grow and prosper while the public at large is treated to an excellent choice based on their needs and wants. its called commerce!!!

  23. Hartmut says:

Auch ich bin sehr sauer über den Streit zwischen zwei Konzerne, die auf unseren Rücken ausgetragen wird. Bin von YouTube

I don’t blame google…..Amazon is dreadfully at not letting you use anything else on its devices besides amazon based…..I would never buy another kindle…..all though I love either an sits really handy….because it does not support google play an the lack of decent apps on would like and need…..Amazon apps doesn’t even ha e Barclays Bank…..I think this is disgusting as every day I need to move money around…..this is the most basic need Amazon is denying me….the US elf all other apps that are not amazon based…..and not being able to have google up as my main server….it doesn’t stop me using Google ….because that is all I use….it just makes I more difficult to access…another reason I would not buy an Amazon product….especially now I cannot watch youtube….Amazon you have brought this upon yourself…..also the other day I tried to sign in to amazon music free for three months to try it out …..th blink would not work and all of a sudden before I knew it I had signed up to amazon music for free for one month….which I didn’t even realise either had done for a while…..so now after a month I shall discontinue and try Spotify instead….you shouldntake people buy your products only …..people want choice in a free market….what I do like about try kindle though is the Mayday button it is amazingly usefully and great to get through to someone I can see at the tap of a button and within seconds….100 stars for that amazon….it is such a pity youtube will no longer be there….I have just started to use youtube as a learning aid….and not having it will be enough to store having amazon prime….and going to Netflix

  43. Angela W. says:

O think it’s not right for you to sale the fire tv’s ,and stick .And can’t make agreement on the sales of Chromecast products. The customer shouldn’t

  44. Yung Feng says:

90% of the time I use Fire TV I watch youtube. I really enjoyed the convenience so I bought four of them. This sudden bombshell is sooooo ridiculous. I am so disappointed at Amazon and Google, can’t believe they are acting like the Republican and Democratic politicians who always put their own interests above the citizen’s.

  45. Brian jones says:

Angry, as from the 1st of January I intend to buy nothing more from Amazon. If enough people stop buying from them they may have think again. Vote with your feet that’s all you can do.
