YouTube Premium Is Replacing YouTube Red

YouTube announces that YouTube Premium is replacing YouTube Red.

What is YouTube Red?

YouTube Red allows you to watch YouTube without ads, have access to YouTube Red Originals, and get other benefits such as “Ad Free” entertainment. If you watch a lot of YouTube, you should consider subscribing to YouTube Red.

YouTube Red is different from YouTube TV. 

YouTube Red is an Internet video streaming subscription service that includes:

• Music Videos – Ad Free
• YouTube Videos – Ad Free
• Offline Music – Ad Free – Download videos or songs for offline play (Android & iOS)
• YouTube Music App – Background play and offline access (Android & iOS)
• Audio Mode – Listen to only the audio

YouTube Red does not include access to paid content such as paid channels, movie rentals, and pay-per-view purchases.

Currently, YouTube Red is not available on the YouTube app for the Amazon Fire TV.

Perhaps YouTube will clarify the differences, but it does not seem much is changing between YouTube Red and YouTube Premium. The only obvious change is the price increase from $9.99 to $11.99.

YouTube Premium appears to offer all the current features and entertainment now available in YouTube Red:

YouTube Music Premium

What seems to be different is that YouTube Music Premium can be purchased as a standalone package.

YouTube Music Premium will be a direct competitor to other streaming music services such as Amazon Music Unlimited, Apple Music, and Spotify.

YouTube Premium Pricing

Currently, YouTube Red costs $9.99. YouTube Premium price will be $11.99 and YouTube Music Premium will be $9.99.

The price difference between YouTube Premium and YouTube Premium Music is only $2. I can’t imagine many people won’t spend the extra $2 so they can watch YouTube videos without ads.
