Amazon May Soon Have A New Free Video Service

As more TV viewers shift to watching streaming media, Amazon wants to be an option that you consider. Amazon already has Prime Video, a premium paid service similar to Netflix and Hulu. So now, Amazon is creating a new free streaming service that will be like Crackle, Tubi TV, and The Roku Channel.

Crackle has been providing free content since 2006. Tubi TV has been around since 2014. And The Roku Channel was kicked-off last year. Now Amazon plans to offer a free ad-supported streaming service that will show FREE movies and TV shows.

There is BIG money in ad revenue. For example, recent reports predict that Roku will generate about $300 million in advertising revenue for 2018.

There are about 39 Million U.S. Roku users per month. And there are about 36 Million U.S. Amazon Fire TV users per month. The potential revenue from a FREE streaming service for all Roku and Fire TV users could be incredible.

Amazon continues to make moves to provide streaming content. Each year more people Cut The Cord from traditional cable and satellite TV, and stream their TV entertainment. Amazon wants to be an option that you consider for what and how you watch TV.

What Could This Mean For The FIRE TV?

If you own a Fire TV, you can probably tell that the Fire TV home screen is integrated into Amazon Prime Video, Amazon Channels, and Alexa. The Fire TV is quick to display content from Prime Video and Amazon Channels right on the home screen. And Alexa searches seem to give search results from Amazon Prime content.

Within the Fire TV, the experience between the home screen and Prime Video is seamless. When you click on a TV show or movie, the Fire TV takes you directly to that show. But in the Netflix, Hulu, and Sling TV apps, you have to first open an app before you can see and watch content.

I imagine the same experience on the Amazon Fire TV. But perhaps the TV show or movie images displayed on the home screen will have a diagonal banner in the corner that says, “Free” or “Supported with Ads”.
