What is Plex?

What is Plex? Plex is a FREE streaming media system that organizes your digital media such as photos, movies, TV shows, home movies, and music. Plex allows your digital media to be viewed or watched on your own TV or mobile device.

What is Plex?

There are actually two parts to the Plex streaming media system. One part is the Plex media server that installs and runs on your computer. The other part is the Plex app.

Combined, the Plex media system streams your digital media from the Plex server running on your home computer to a streaming media player like a Roku.

The Plex media server is available for computers such as Windows and OS X (Apple Macintosh).

The Plex app is available for several streaming media players such as:

Plex Remote Control App

Plex has a highly functional smart phone and tablet remote control app for iOS and Android.

Final Thoughts

While Plex Pass is actually quite simple to install, configuring the system and making your digital media available for viewing can be somewhat complicated – depending on your current computer system.

However, if you do have problems, Plex has responsive support staff who actively watch the support discussion boards. The discussion boards also have real Plex users who are knowledgeable and experienced with Plex, and very willing to help.

Plex seems to recognize that some users may find it challenging to install Plex, or may have problems when installing and configuring the Plex server. In response, Plex is rolling out a new service called Plex Pass Pro that gives new Plex users personal help in setting up their Plex system.

If you want to watch your digital movies and TV shows on your TV, Plex is a great way to do it.
