This movie is based on journalist Kim Barker’s real life reporting experiences in Afghanistan and Pakistan, and documented in her memoir The Taliban Shuffle: Strange Days in Afghanistan and Pakistan.

The film had two working titles of The Taliban Shuffle and Fun House, before the decision was made to use the movie title Whiskey Tango Foxtrot.

HINT: Whiskey Tango Foxtrot is an acronym based on the NATO military alphabet typically used to use distinct words to communicate letters over radio communications. For example… Alpha for “A” or Bravo for “B.”
